about

"Prayer Flags" was written and recorded immediately after the tragedy of 9/11 hit lower Manhattan. The lyrics and melody were born of the emotions of love and anguish embodied in the "MISSING" posters that cropped up everywhere near the site.

In its intimacy and understated intensity, “Prayer Flags” preserves in amber the energy of those numbing and painful days all New Yorkers lived through. The song was twice featured on National Public Radio, reprinted in two bestselling books, and shared widely across various media.

Marc composed this tribute song to the victims and their families—and to the compassionate people everywhere whose hearts opened wide in response to this unimaginable sorrow—in the hopes that it might help all of us heal the wounds of that tragic day.

lyrics

have you seen him, have you seen him
brown hair blue eyes, 5 foot 10
have you seen her, here’s her picture
she’s my wife, she’s my best friend

have you seen her, have you seen him
he’s got a mole on his left hand
if you’ve seen him, here’s my number
please call as soon as you can

have you seen him, have you seen her
she’s wearing a yellow dress
a tattoo on her right shoulder
says "baby i’m the best"

have you seen her have you seen him
he’s wearing a wedding band
and the words on the inscription read
"may 12, 2000... forever... ann"

have you seen her, have you seen him
he was on the 100th floor
she’s my mother, he’s my brother
she called me at 9:04
from the stairway, from the hallway
from her cell phone. from the roof
if you’ve seen her, won’t you tell her please
we love her so

have you seen them, have you seen them
walking in the by-and-by
from the rubble
through all the trouble
into the beautiful
blue
sky

about

Marc Farre Sebastopol, California

“In the company of European-influenced musicians like Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, and Nick Cave. A throaty voice, highly poetic lyrics and a kinetic band behind him. Compelling.”
